About

Oxfam Australia SkillShare places volunteers with professional skills with not-for-profit organisations that need their assistance. The projects are of finite duration and generally in and around the Melbourne area. The organisation does not need to have DGR (deductible gift recipient) status.

Our professional volunteers have skills in many areas. Examples of the services they can offer include strategic and business planning, marketing and PR, information technology support such as websites and databases, documentation of organisational processes and procedures, accounting, research, project management, submission preparation, training, event coordination, legal and management advice.

Established in 1999, Oxfam Australia SkillShare was one of the first volunteer placement organisations that sought to place a broad range of volunteers with organisations.

Since 1999, other volunteer placement organisations have come into existence but SkillShare remains unique because:

  • As well as placing a volunteer (or volunteers) on a project, it also places a monitor on each project to ensure that the project is running smoothly, that the volunteer is not feeling overburdened and that the organisation is happy with the way things are progressing; and
  • Volunteers are all trained before being placed on a project and almost all of them have some association with Oxfam Australia and a commitment to the ethos of Oxfam - assisting others to assist themselves without paternalism;
  • Organisations do not require DGR status to benefit from our services;
  • It is entirely run and operated by volunteers.

Whether you are an organisation in need of some assistance or would like to be a volunteer then please feel free to get in contact with us.
